Happy Harvest Party!

The whole group: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Working hard in reading group

Hi families,

I hope you're having a nice weekend! I'm home this evening so I thought I would get a head starting with sharing this info.  The students had a blast at the Harvest Party! It was nice to see so many familiar faces at our evening harvest party too.

Here is what we are getting into this week:

 In Language Arts, we will:
* work on the following sight words- to, on, & like.
* we will continue working on story elements this week as we read fiction stories. We will discuss characters, problem, solution and retell the sequence of events.
* October reading calendars are due on October 31st.

In Science, we will:
* finish up our five senses by learning about taste.
* continue learning about matter by determining if an object sinks or floats.

In Writing, we will:
* use our sense to describe and write about what a pumpkin looks like, feels like, smells like, and sounds like.
* We will continue to practice forming letters, generating ideas, and making our writing fancy (speech bubbles, adding details, writing more, labels, etc.)

In Math, we will:
* continue matching numeral to quantity
* compare sets by using the terms more or less.

***Cold Temperatures***
Please make sure you are sending a jacket or coat with your child to school everyday. Our classroom can be chilly and we go outside as long as it is 32 degrees or warmer. If it is colder then 32 degrees we have indoor recess.

***Reading Baggies***
Please remember to send reading bags back to school each day.  We use these resources during our guided reading groups.  Thanks!

***Cereal Boxes***
Just a quick reminder to send an empty cereal box to school for your student's cubbie.  We are using them to organize center work.  So far, it is working very well.  If you do not have a cereal box, please let me know.  I have been collecting them at home.

Sunday Update

Hi Everyone,

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend.  Well....we still have Sunday...it's not over yet.  I'm headed to Virginia to watch the Redskins with Family.  Hopefully we end our horrible losing streak today.  I will be at work tomorrow.  I'm finally getting over with cold/flu.

A couple notes about this week:

-We will visit the center room on Monday and Wednesday

-Tuesday, the Independent Fire Hose. Station will visit Pre-K and Kindergarten - this is such a wonderful experience for the kiddos.  They talk about fire safety and get to explore their equipment....pictures to come!

-We will have a tornado drill on Wednesday.  We will practice what this looks like tomorrow.  Please discuss with your student why do these drills.  The tornado drill can be little frightening the first time.  We kneel in the hallway and cover our heads with our hands.  I will definitely take the time to model and practice this with the kids.

-Friday!  The best day of the year!!! FALL HARVEST PARTY!  last week in their take-home folder I sent a note home explaining what that day will look like.  If you are able, we are asking for a small donation to purchase snacks for the students.  If you would like to volunteer, please indicate on that form.  We would love to have help that day.  Students are encouraged to dress as their favorite book character.  If you have the book to match the costume, please send it to school as well.  Last year the K team were Disney characters.  We are sure to blow this years theme out of the water!!!   We won't tell the kiddos about our costume until they see us on Friday morning....this is why this day is so fun!  We like dressing up as much as the kids.  If you do not feel comfortable sending your student to school in costume, that is ok.  Please do not feel obligated to purchase a costume for this day.

-Friday Night!  You received a note about our school party that evening.  We encourage you to attend (in costume).  It is a very fun evening.  The K team will be at the festival painting faces.  Please visit our table!

-Reading Groups are in full swing.  I'm so amazed at their ability to transition through the room; working independently and in small groups.  Please remember to send your student's reading baggie to school each day.  We use it in our small guided reading group.  I hope you're practicing the reading books and activities inside their baggie....I'm seeing so many colored pumpkins and this makes me very happy!  Keep up the good work : )

If you have any questions, please let me know!

Sunday Post

Hello Families,

I hope all is well!  We have an exciting week ahead of us!  I know that I'm very excited for the pumpkin patch.  I bet the kiddos are too.  I have a couple updates for the week:

-We will visit the center room on Tuesday and Thursday

-Tuesday we have a library book exchange at 9:20 am

-Wednesday we have individual picture day at 9:05 am

-Thursday we go to the PUMPKIN PATCH!!

A few notes about our field trip.  We will leave promptly at 9:30 am.  Please make sure your student is on time for school.  That way they will have enough time to unpack, use the restroom and prepare for the day.  Please pack your student's lunch in a disposable bag (labeled with their name).  We will use a large bin to transport lunches.  Its looking like it will be around 73 degrees with a chance of thunderstorms.  Lets hope the weather holds out!  Please have your student dress weather appropriate with a jacket and comfortable shoes.  Your student will get to pick out a medium size pumpkin....be on the look out after school.  We have 6 volunteers....Thanks so much for coming!!  If you have any questions, please let me know.

-Friday, no school for students

Have a great week!!
